International Business Luncheon: Global Supply Chain Challenges during COVID

February 16, 2022 | 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM

Directions

We are pleased to reschedule the in-person international luncheon program for Wednesday, February 16, 2022. It will feature Byron Miller, Director of Sales for the South Carolina Ports Authority. Byron is a seasoned executive for the SCPA, and his perspective is invaluable for understanding the unique challenges in his industry over the past year.

This includes global shipping delays in select foreign countries due to increased worker shortages due to covid, shortages of containers, shortages of truck drivers, blockages at the Suez Canal, back up and at key ports in China (such as Yantian) and U.S. ports like Los Angeles. All this has implications for causing ripple effects on supply chains across the world. The SC Ports Authority has seen imports increasing as the world slowly recovers from the pandemic. However, shortages of semiconductor microchips from countries like Taiwan and Malaysia are causing delays in auto, electronics, computer, and other manufacturing worldwide.

These impacts have also motivated the SCPA to expand its successful inland port strategy to by-pass using trucks to deliver finished cars and other goods from the SC Upstate & Pee Dee regions to the Port of Charleston.
