We welcome Dr. Anthony (Tony) Wells to give us a short history of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and provide operational examples of how the CAP fulfills its mission locally and nationally as the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force.
Dr. Wells is a pilot and captain in the SC-060 squadron of the CAP based in Mt. Pleasant, SC. As a FAA-licensed commercial pilot, he holds single and multi-engine, land and sea, instrument, and flight instructor ratings.
A retired intelligence officer, Wells worked with both British and American intelligence and is a 50-year veteran of the Five Eyes intelligence community (Australia, Canada, U.S., UK, and New Zealand). He led programs and developed technologies in counterterrorism and other forms of irregular warfare and insurgency. Wells also served in the Royal British Navy and in the U.S. Navy.
Wells is now a full-time author of professional books (e.g., Between Five Eyes) and novels (Room 39 and the Lisbon Connection).
He received his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of London, a bachelor's and a master's from the University of Durham, and received additional training at the Royal Naval College Dartmouth, the School of Maritime Operations, and at Trinity College, Oxford.
