We are proud to present the Volvo Cars global story with a local footprint.

Please welcome Katie Ovenden (Holba), marketing manager for Volvo Southern Region and a current WACC member, to learn more about Volvo Cars, their operations in the Lowcountry, and her perspectives on the rapidly changing automotive industry.

Volvo’s Ridgeville, South Carolina plant represents the start of a new era for Volvo as the production site for the new, fully electric Volvo EX90. Born electric and software-defined, it will demonstrate Volvo Cars capabilities in terms of safety, tech, sustainability, design, and creating a more personal experience for its customers.

The vehicle will be built at the Ridgeville plant, which is hiring an additional 1,300 employees to join 1,500 currently employed to support the future of the Volvo brand. "Charleston is a talent and workforce magnet," according to Ms. Ovenden.

Ms. Ovenden joined the Volvo team 5 years ago when the plant officially opened in South Carolina. Prior to working at Volvo, she worked in economic development with the Charleston Regional Development Alliance. She comes from a military family and has lived across the United States and overseas.
