This is a very timely topic against a background of much turbulence and uncertainty in today's energy upheavals as U.S. oil and gas production surge and global oil prices have fallen sharply. Many factors are playing out which our speaker will sort out.

James Clad is a consultant for energy and investment firms and is a Senior Adviser at the Center for Naval Analyses and at Jane's Defense and Cambridge Energy Research Associates. From 2002 to 2010, he was U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asia, Senior Counselor at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and at the Agency for International Development (AID). 
 
From 1995 to 2002 he was Luce Foundation Professor at Georgetown University . 
 
Mr. Clad was trained as a New Zealand diplomat with a career focusing on Asia. He was correspondent for many years of the Far Eastern Economic Review and held fellowships at Oxford and Harvard Universities and at the Carnegie Endowment. He is the author of several books on Asian economics and U.S. foreign policy.
