Description:

Elizabeth Ferris is a Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institution in Washington where she is also Co-Director of the Brookings-LSE Project on Internal Displacement. She also teaches at Georgetown University.
 
Prior to joining Brookings, Dr. Ferris for many years was the director of the Church World Service's refugee assistance program in Geneva where she worked with many local, national and international organizations on protection of refugees, internal displaced persons, and other populations affected by conflict.
 
She is the author of many articles for professional publications. Her most recent book , 'The Politics of Protection: The Limits of Humanitarian Action' was published by Brookings in 2011. She very recently visited the Syrian-Turkish border where she saw first-hand and reported on the condition of refugees fleeing Syria.
 
Dr. Ferris is a graduate of Duke University. She received her Master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Florida.
